Project Description


South Central Inv.140 CC is applying for environmental authorisation to develop approximately 815 residential units and associated supporting infrastructure on Erf 168 located in Kabega, Port Elizabeth, within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) of the Eastern Cape Province. The site is approximately 17.76 hectares in extent and located within the approved urban edge of the NMBM and zoned as Residential 3F; it is currently undeveloped and vacant.  The site is adjacent to Walker drive. The residential development is proposed to be a social housing development and aims to be rented to persons falling within a joint household income bracket of between R1,500 – R15,000 per month. The social housing development project will be implemented by the Housing Hub. The design entails 30 blocks divided into approximately seven development clusters each with its own architectural identity. Approximately 70% of the units will be 40m² and 30% with a unit size of 30m². The developed hard footprint (i.e. 30 blocks, sidewalks, paving, parking bays, communal area, internal roads, social area) will be 12.86 ha.

The Draft Basic assessment report was available for a 30 day review and comment period. The report was updated and the final basic assessment report has been submitted to the DEDEAT for decision making.
