Project Description
Kangela Empowerment Trust is an established farming operation covering an area of approximately 285 hectares situated east of the Sundays River close to the town of Addo in Sundays River Valley Local Municipality, Sarah Baartman District Municipality in the Eastern Cape. Portion 29 of Farm Addo Drift East Number 124, which is approximately 57 hectares in extent, is the southernmost land parcel belonging to the Kangela Empowerment Trust initiative and the Sundays River forms the western boundary of the property.
Activities have been carried out on the land parcel that requires an Environmental Authorisation in terms of Section 24 (F) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and a water use license in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act (Act 108 of 1996).
Notice is hereby given in terms of Regulation 41 of the 2014 EIA regulations (as amended, 2017) published in terms of Section 24 (5) of the NEMA that the operational company (KET Farms (Pty) Ltd) intends to submit an application on behalf of the Kangela Empowerment Trust to the Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) for the regularization of unlawful commencement or continuation of listed activities in terms of Section 24G of the NEMA. A water use license application will also be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation.
A public participation process will be conducted according to NEMA Regulation 41 of the NEMA 2014 EIA Regulations (as amended, 2017).
All interested and affected parties (IAPs) are encouraged to participate in the process.
The draft S24G application is available for a 30-day review and comment period.
